St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert advises that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 40 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Juvenile male, 12, Franklin, LA was arrested on May 8, 2017 at 8:22 am for simple battery. A School Resource Officer responded to a report of a fight at the St. Mary Parish Alternative Program school. During the investigation, the SRO collected evidence that the juvenile struck another juvenile in the head. Following the arrest, the juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
Shena Bowser, 38, 205 Harrington Road, Lafayette, LA was arrested on May 8, 2017 at 2:13 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of criminal neglect of family. A deputy located Bowser at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin. Bowser was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail is set at $2,350.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert advises that the Narcotics Section made the following arrests:
Harold Edwards, III, 17, 108 Texas Street, Lafayette, LA was arrested on May 8, 2017 at 6:28 pm for possession of Schedule I (marijuana), obstruction of justice, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Section K-9 Unit observed a vehicle cross the fog line on US Highway 90 and conducted a traffic stop in Bayou Vista. The driver was identified as Edwards. While speaking with him, the detective smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During the investigation, the detective located marijuana on Edwards’ person. Edwards attempted to conceal the illegal substance from the detective. A juvenile was in the SUV at the time of the traffic stop investigation. Edwards was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
Jonathan Parker, 34, 462 Highway 182, Franklin, LA was arrested on May 8, 2017 at 7:42 pm for improper lane usage, no driver’s license, and possession of Schedule I (marijuana).
Josiah Parker, 23, 131 Lagonda Road, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on May 8, 2017 at 7:31 pm for the following offenses:
- Resisting a police officer with force or violence
- Obstruction of justice
- Possession of Schedule I (marijuana)
- Possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor
- Violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone)
- Warrant from the Patterson Police Department for resisting an officer by flight
Detectives of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Section were patrolling Bayou Vista when they observed a vehicle driving on the curb of Clarke Road. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Jonathan Parker, and a passenger, Josiah Parker. Detectives also observed a toddler aged child in the car. While speaking with the occupants, detectives located a partially burnt marijuana cigar in the vehicle. Detectives received consent to search Josiah Parker. During that process, Josiah Parker attempted to flee on foot. Detectives also observed him discard a bag of marijuana. Josiah Parker was detained. Following the investigation, Josiah Parker was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking and Jonathan Parker was released on a summons to appear in court on August 15, 2017. No bail is set for Josiah Parker.
