Arrest Report - May 8, 2017

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert advises that over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 112 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Nicholas Starkey, 20, 121 Blue Street, Gray, LA was arrested on May 5, 2017 at 10:30 am for speeding and operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. A deputy patrolling US Highway 90 in the Franklin area observed a vehicle traveling 82 miles per hour in a posted 70 miles per hour zone. The deputy conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, Starkey, the deputy found that he was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. Starkey was released on a summons to appear in court on August 15, 2017.

 

Juvenile male, 16, Patterson, LA was arrested on May 5, 2017 at 2:06 pm for simple battery. A School Resource Officer responded to a report of a fight at Patterson High School. The SRO found evidence that the juvenile male approached a juvenile male victim and struck him in the face multiple times. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings. The SRO conducted a follow-up investigation to check on the victim’s well-being and found that the juvenile victim suffered a broken jaw. The new information in the case was turned over to the district attorney’s office.

 

Jason Gaskins, 34, 133 Friendship Alley, Amelia, LA was arrested on May 5, 2017 at 7:27 am on a warrant for aggravated second degree battery (domestic violence). A deputy responded to a report of a possible assault that occurred at a residence in Amelia. Through investigation, the deputy found evidence that Gaskins struck a female victim repeatedly in the head with a piece of wood rendering her unconscious. The victim received medical treatment at an area hospital. The deputy obtained a warrant for Gaskins’ arrest. He was located on Friendship Alley in Amelia and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail is set at $25,000.

 

Ernest Harris, Jr., 40, 710 St. Michael Street, Patterson, LA was arrested on May 5, 2017 at 7:30 pm on a Patterson Police Department warrant for unauthorized use of a moveable. A deputy located Harris at a residence on Friendship Alley in Amelia and transported him to the ST. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

 

Shane Price, 23, 183 Highway 182, Morgan City, LA was arrested on May 6, 2017 at 1:24 am for speeding and operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle traveling 38 miles per hour in a posted 25 miles per hour zone on Southeast Boulevard. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and found that the driver, Price, was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. Price was released on a summons to appear in court on August 15, 2017.

 

Cynthia Welch, 57, 103 Teche Court, Baldwin, LA was arrested on May 6, 2017 at 1:49 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of operating a vehicle without insurance, no vehicle license, and failure to carry registration certificate. While assisting Baldwin Police, a deputy came into contact with Welch and located the active warrant for her arrest. Welch was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

 

John Verdin, Jr., 64, 204 Kathleen Street, Patterson, LA was arrested on May 6, 2017 at 2:05 am for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and stop sign violation. A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Field Road and Saturn Road. The deputy then saw the vehicle come to a rolling stop in the middle of the intersection. A traffic stop was made on Middle Road. The driver was identified as Verdin. While speaking with him, the deputy smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and body along with several other indicators of impairment. The deputy administered a standardized field sobriety test. Verdin conducted the poorly. He late registered a 0.199g% blood alcohol concentration on a breath test. The deputy transported Verdin to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Verdin was released on a $2,750 bond.

 

Juvenile male, 12, Patterson, LA was arrested on May 7, 2017 at 2:40 am for curfew violation and resisting an officer.

 

Juvenile male, 14, Franklin, LA was arrested on May 7, 2017 at 2:40 am for curfew violation.

 

While patrolling Bayou Vista, a deputy observed 2 juvenile males near the intersection of Southwest Road and Saturn Road. The 12-year-old juveniles attempted to run away from deputies. The 14-year-old juvenile gave the deputy a fake story as to why he was out after curfew. Both juveniles were released to their guardians pending juvenile court proceedings.
