The suspect seen on video surveillance stealing over $1,300 from a cash register at the Walmart in Bayou Vista is in custody in Assumption Parish on unrelated charges. On Thursday, July 28, 2016, a deputy responded to a report of a theft at Walmart in Bayou Vista. The deputy collected video evidence of a male subject breaking into a register and stealing the cash (original release). After posting a picture of the subject and information about the crime on social media and releasing it to local media outlets, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received several anonymous tips identifying the suspect as 21-year-old James Edison Viscardis. The Sheriff’s Office detective assigned to the case verified the tips and positively identified the suspect as Viscardis. On August 19, 2016, the detective received word from another investigator with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office that Viscardis was located at a residence on Honey Lane in Bayou L’Ourse and arrested on unrelated charges in that jurisdiction. The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office detective also provided additional evidence positively identifying Viscardis as the suspect seen on video surveillance in the Walmart theft. A warrant has been issued for Viscardis on the charge of felony theft. Viscardis is being held at the Assumption Parish jail. The warrant charge is pending.
