On Saturday morning, August 20, 2016, at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville, an inmate became unresponsive.
Sterling Scully, 52, reported he was ill and was brought to medical where he was seen by medical staff. Acadian Ambulance was summoned. Shortly after Scully became unresponsive. Resuscitative efforts were implemented and were unsuccessful.
Scully was pronounced dead by the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s office. The investigation has been turned over to the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office. Scully had been incarcerated since December of 2015 and was serving time on charges of illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and for violation of felony probation.
