Arrest Report - August 8, 2016

According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the last 72-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 114 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Bricelon Martin, 20, 1192 Chitimacha Trail, Charenton, LA was arrested on August 5, 2016 at 3:04 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of child desertion, flight from an officer, criminal trespassing, and remaining where forbidden. A deputy developed information regarding Martin’s whereabouts and made contact with him at a location on Marguerite Street in Morgan City. Martin was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

 

Schronte Hopes, 18, 606 Pellerin Street, Jeanerette, LA was arrested on August 5, 2016 at 11:12 pm for speeding, no driver’s license, and no insurance. A deputy patrolling Charenton observed a vehicle traveling 65 miles per hour in a posted 55 miles per hour zone on Highway 182. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Hopes. The deputy discovered that Hopes was operating the vehicle without a driver’s license or insurance. Hopes was released on a summons to appear in court on November 21, 2016.

 

Dimon Batiste, 21, 1513 Gum Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on August 6, 2016 at 3:31 am for the following offenses:

- Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute

- Possession of drug paraphernalia

- Transactions involving drug proceeds

- Violation of a uniform controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone)

- No driver’s license

- Headlamps required

 

Demondre Watson, 20, 1513 Gum Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on August 8, 2016 at 3:31 am for the following offenses:

- Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute

- Possession of drug paraphernalia

- Transactions involving drug proceeds

- Violation of a uniform controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone)

- Possession of (open) alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles

 

A deputy patrolling Verdunville observed a vehicle traveling on Highway 182 with only one functioning head light. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Batiste, and a passenger, Watson. The deputy discovered that Batiste was operating the vehicle without a driver’s license. While speaking with the subjects, the deputy smelled the strong odor of burning marijuana coming from the vehicle. The deputy searched the car and located 10 small bags of marijuana along with other items suspected of being used to package the substance for sale and an open bottle of liquor. The deputy also found just under $300 in cash suspected of being derived from illegal drug sales on Watson’s person and inside the vehicle. The investigation took place near a church. Batiste and Watson were transported to the parish jail for booking. Watson was released on a $12,000 bond. No bail is set for Batiste.

 

Eugene J. Lacoste, 50, 102 Edwin Lane, Amelia, LA was arrested on August 6, 2016 at 7:00 am on a warrant for simple battery. The warrant was issued following an investigation into a complaint of a battery. The deputy collected evidence that Lacoste struck a male victim repeatedly in the face. Lacoste turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. Lacoste was released on a $500 bond.

 

Lakeisha Tatum, 33, 413 7th Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on August 6, 2016 at 3:57 pm for the following offenses:

- No driver’s license

- No insurance

- Expired motor vehicle inspection

- Expired license plate

A deputy patrolling Highway 182 in the Franklin area observed a vehicle with an expired license plate and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, Tatum, and found that she was operating the vehicle without a driver’s license or insurance and an expired MVI. Tatum was released on a summons to appear in court on November 21, 2016.

 

Willie Vallet, Jr., 49, 170 Verdun Lane, Verdunville, LA was arrested on August 7, 2016 at 12:20 am for the following offenses:

- No driver’s license on person

- Expired driver’s license

- Expired motor vehicle inspection

- Proper equipment required

- Possession of drug paraphernalia

- Warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family

A deputy patrolling Garden City observed a vehicle traveling on Highway 182 with only one operational head light and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, Vallet, and found that he operating the vehicle with no driver’s license in the vehicle and an expired MVI. The deputy also discovered that Vallet’s driver’s license was expired and that he had an active warrant for his arrest. As the traffic stop investigation progressed, the deputy located a metal pipe and steel wool inside the vehicle. Vallet was transported to the parish jail for booking. Bail is set at $7,546.

 

Abraham Gilbert, Jr., 38, 721 Wattigny Street, Jeanerette, LA was arrested on August 7, 2016 at 3:47 am for the following offenses:

- Speeding

- Flight from an officer

- Possession of (open) alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles

- Driving with a suspended driver’s license

- Switched license plate

A deputy patrolling Charenton observed a vehicle traveling 73 miles per hour in a posted 55 miles per hour zone on Highway 182. The deputy initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle slowed but failed to stop. The vehicle continued to travel onto Ralph Darden Memorial Parkway where the driver pulled over. The deputy made contact with the driver, Gilbert, and found that he was operating the van with a suspended driver’s license. The deputy also discovered that the license plate displayed on the van was not registered to the vehicle. An open can of beer was also located inside the vehicle. Gilbert was transported to the parish jail for booking. Gilbert was released on a $2,500 bond.

 

Tony L. Younger, Jr., 25, 1205 Iberia Street, New Iberia, LA was arrested on August 6, 2016 at 9:43 pm on an Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy patrolling Garden City observed a male subject standing on the shoulder of Highway 182. The deputy made contact with the subject and located an active warrant for his arrest. Younger was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

 

A juvenile female, age 14, from Lake Charles, LA and a juvenile female, age 15 from Franklin, LA were arrested on August 7, 2016 at 6:45 pm for disturbing the peace. A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a store in Bayou Vista. During the course of the investigation, the deputy collected evidence that the two juveniles yelled and cursed at another juvenile causing a disturbance in the store. Both juveniles were released to their guardians pending juvenile court proceedings.

 

Karen Hall, 45, 103 Maurice Street, Thibodaux, LA was arrested on August 8, 2016 at 4:02 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, unlit license plate, and no proof of insurance. During booking at the St. Mary parish Law Enforcement Center, a correctional officer located the active warrant for Hall’s arrest. No bail is set.
