On September 9, 2015, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s began an investigation into a report of extensive damage to a snack vending machine at the sugar mill on Irish Bend Road in Franklin. The crime was reported when the operator of the machine went to refill it and discovered the empty and damaged machine. The detective assigned to the case determined that the theft and criminal damage to property occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 5, 2015. In addition to other evidence recovered from the scene, the detective collected video surveillance of a suspect walking near the mill holding part of the vending machine mechanism. Over $4,000 in damages and loss were reported. Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.
