According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the last 24 hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 44 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Gary Estilette, 57, 709 E. St. Clair Drive, New Iberia, LA was arrested on July 16, 2014 at 7:21 am on a warrant for aggravated second degree battery. Estilette turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center after learning of the warrant for his arrest. The warrant stems from an investigation into an altercation during which Estilette struck a male victim with a pipe wrench. Estilette was released on a $15,000 bond.
May A. Thurman, 50, 109 Rose Park Lane, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on July 16, 2014 at 9:26 am for theft. A deputy responded to a report of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy located the suspect in the shoplifting incident on the corner of Saturn and Southwest Roads and identified her as Thurman. Store personnel identified Thurman as the subject who took a bottle of liquor from the store. The deputy released Thurman on a summons to appear in court on October 13, 2014.
Jathan Cowart, 30, 3187 Hwy. 87, Franklin, LA was arrested on July 16, 2014 at 9:49 am on a warrant for disturbing the peace (fighting) and criminal damage to property. Cowart turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin after learning of the warrant for his arrest. A deputy transported Cowart to the parish jail for booking. Cowart was later released on a $1,000 bond.
Tonya Tullier, 33, 3187 Highway 87, Franklin, LA was arrested on July 16, 2014 at 9:49 am on a warrant for disturbing the peace (fighting). Tullier turned herself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin after learning of the warrant for her arrest. Tullier was transported to the parish jail for booking. She was later released on a $500 bond.
Charlie Hurst, Jr., 23, 282 Eves Street, Sorrel, LA was arrested on July 17, 2014 at 1:36 am for domestic abuse battery and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of domestic abuse battery and simple criminal damage to property. A deputy conducted an investigation of a complaint of a domestic battery that occurred on Eves Street in Sorrel. The deputy determined that Hurst struck a female victim repeatedly following an argument. The deputy located Hurst at his residence and transported him to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert the Narcotics Division made the following arrests:
Jerry Anslum, 45, 1416 Second Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on July 16, 2014 at 6:10 pm for possession of marijuana. Narcotics Detectives patrolling the Bayou Vista area conducted a traffic stop on Todd Lane. During the traffic stop investigation, detectives made contact with a passenger in the vehicle identified as Anslum. While speaking with Anslum he appeared extremely nervous. Detectives received consent to search Anslum and located a bag of marijuana in his pocket. Detectives released Anslum on a summons to appear in court on October 13, 2014.
Derrick Kelly, 19, 7810 Hwy 182 Franklin, LA was arrested on July 16, 2014 at 8:34 pm for the following offenses:
- Improper Lane Usage
- Aggravated flight from an officer
- Possession of marijuana
Jamarcus Gunner, 20, 172 Verdun Lane Verdunville, LA was arrested on July 16, 2014 at 8:34 pm for the following offenses:
-Obstruction of justice
-Resisting an officer
-Possession of drug paraphernalia
Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division patrolling the Patterson area observed a car cross over the center line of Highway 90 nearly striking another vehicle. Detectives initiated a traffic stop. The driver of the car failed to stop and fled from detectives. Detectives observed the car travelling at a high rate of speed and running other vehicles off of the roadway. Detectives pursued the car onto Kelly Pellerin Lane in Verdunville where the driver of the car passed close to pedestrians standing in the roadway. As the driver of the car stopped the vehicle on Kelly Pellerin Lane, a passenger, later identified as Gunner, exited the car. Upon seeing detectives nearby, Gunner threw several bags of synthetic marijuana into the back seat of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. At that point, detectives detained Gunner, the driver, identified as Kelly, and another occupant in the vehicle pending further investigation. Detectives received consent to search the car and located bags of synthetic marijuana with an estimated street value of approximately $2,000 dollars. Detectives also located a small bag of marijuana, a digital scale, and small plastic bags inside the car. Gunner and Kelly were transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set. The other occupant in the car was released with no charges.
