According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the last 24 hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 37 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Brigg J. McDaniel, 37, 10119 Highway 13, Kaplan, LA was arrested on April 23, 2015 at 9:32 am for possession of open alcoholic containers in motor vehicles and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of direct contempt, speeding, and failure to honor written promise to appear. A deputy travelling on Highway 90 in the Morgan City area observed a vehicle moving at a high rate of speed and driving in a reckless manner. The deputy conducted a traffic stop at the foot of the US Highway 90 bridge in Berwick and made contact with the driver of the vehicle who was identified as McDaniel. The deputy discovered that McDaniel was driving with a suspended license and that he held an active warrant for his arrest. The deputy cited McDaniel for carless operation of a motor vehicle, driving with a suspended license, and no proof of insurance in vehicle. The deputy also located a freshly opened can of beer inside the vehicle McDaniel was driving. The deputy transported McDaniel to the parish jail for booking. McDaniel was later released on a $500 bond.
Robert D. Ledoux, 63, 400 Boulder Creek Road, Lafayette, LA was arrested on April 23, 2015 at 5:12 pm for reckless operation of a vehicle.
Warren K. Shoop, 38, 119 Trahan Street, Abbeville, LA was arrested on April 23, 2015 at 5:12 pm for reckless operation of a vehicle and hit and run driving.
A deputy responded to a complaint of a hit and run crash that occurred on Highway 90 in the Patterson area. The deputy located the two vehicles involved in the incident traveling on Highway 90 in the Franklin area and conducted a stop. The deputy made contact with the driver of a pick-up truck, identified as Ledoux, and the driver of a tractor trailer, identified as Shoop. During the course of the investigation, the deputy determined that Shoop’s vehicle struck Ledoux’s vehicle as Ledoux was changing lanes. Shoop failed to stop following the crash, continuing to drive down Highway 90 following in close proximity to Ledoux’s vehicle. Both drivers then engaged in a series of actions believed by the deputy to be a case of road rage. Ledoux quickly decelerated in front of Shoop. Shoop changed lanes passing dangerously close to Ledoux and then changed back into the lane in front of Ledoux’s vehicle. Following the investigation, the deputy released both drivers on summonses to appear in court on July 22, 2015.
Daniel Ratcliff, 24, 21748 6th Street Lot #11, Berwick, LA was arrested on April 23, 2015 at 8:51 pm for the following violations:
- Simple battery
- Simple assault
- Simple criminal damage to property
- Disturbing the peace (intoxicated)
- Resisting an officer
Deputies responded to a report of a fight in progress at a bar/lounge on Highway 182 in Amelia. Upon arrival, deputies observed a male subject who approached them in a combative manner. The subject was detained and identified as Ratcliff. During the course of the investigation, deputies learned that Ratcliff entered the establishment and began causing a disturbance by yelling. Ratcliff then struck a male victim in the head and made verbal threats against his life. The male victim sustained lacerations to his face. A bar stool was damaged in the incident. During his arrest, Ratcliff forcefully attempted to pull away from deputies. Ratcliff was transported to the parish jail for booking. Ratcliff was later released on a $2,750 bond.
Terrence D. Johnson, 36, 4022 Chitimacha Trail, Charenton, LA was arrested on April 23, 2015 at 9:09 pm for license plate light required and no drivers license. A deputy patrolling the Charenton area observed a vehicle travelling on Charenton Road with no license plate light. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Johnson, who was driving without a valid license. The deputy released Johnson on a summons to appear in court on July 22, 2015.
Julio Sagastizado-Castro, 35, 157 Village Lane, Amelia, LA was arrested on April 24, 2015 at 2:58 am for impeding the flow of traffic, resisting an officer by force, and flight from an officer. A deputy assigned to patrol the Amelia area observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of Village Lane. When a traffic stop was initiated, the driver of the vehicle accelerated away from the deputy. The deputy followed the vehicle to a residence on Village Lane and made contact with the driver, identified as Sagastizado-Castro. During his arrest Sagastizado-Castro attempted to pull away from the deputy. The deputy transported Sagastizado-Castro to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
