Arrest Report - March 13, 2015

According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert the Narcotics Division made the following arrests:

 

Dedrick J. Gant, Jr., 29, 1360 Ellis Street, Patterson, LA was arrested on March 12, 2015 at 6:32 pm. For possession of Schedule I (marijuana). Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division were patrolling Bayou Vista area when they observed two male subjects at the rear of a local motel. Detectives observed one of the subjects, later identified as Gant, throwing an object into some nearby bushes. As detectives then approached Gant, he fled on foot. Detective quickly apprehended Gant. During the subsequent investigation, detectives located a bag of marijuana in the bushes. Detectives released Gant on a summons to appear in court on June 17, 2015.

 

Joseph W. Stansbury, 54, no address, was arrested on March 12, 2015 at 9:24 pm for the following offenses:

- Improper lane usage

- Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute

- Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute

- Possession of drug paraphernalia

Narcotics detectives patrolling the Berwick area observed a vehicle travel across the fog line on the Highway 90 east bound on ramp nearly making contact with a barricade. The vehicle was also seen crossing the fog line a second time as it took the Highway 182 exit in Morgan City. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver who was identified as Stansbury. The subsequent investigation was completed with the assistance from narcotics detectives with the Morgan City Police Department. Detectives received consent to search the vehicle and contacted the MCPD K-9 unit. The K-9 officer indicated a positive response at the center console of the vehicle. Under the console area detectives located 2 glass pipes, a digital scale, 2 bags of methamphetamine, and marijuana. Stansbury was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

 

According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the last 24 hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 35 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Carey L. Thomas, 43, 807 Taft Street, Patterson, LA was arrested on March 12, 2015 at 8:54 am on a warrant for criminal trespass. A deputy conducting a traffic stop on Highway 90 near Thorguson Road made contact with Thomas and discovered the active warrant for his arrest. The deputy transported Thomas to the parish jail for booking. Thomas was later released on a $1,000 bond.

 

Jabriya Washington, 17, 4401 Faith Drive, New Iberia, LA was arrested on March 12, 2015 at 12:08 pm for simple battery.

 

Juvenile male, 16, Patterson, LA was arrested on March 12, 2015 at 12:08 pm for disturbing the peace (fighting).

 

A school resource officer assigned to the St. Mary Parish Alternative Program observed two students fighting in the cafeteria. During the altercation, the deputy witnessed Washington struck the juvenile in the face. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings. Washington was transported to the parish jail for booking and was later released on a summons to appear in court on June 17, 2015.

 

The following juveniles were arrested on March 12, 2015 at 3:11 pm for simple battery:

Juvenile female, 15, Jeanerette, LA

Juvenile female, 14, Jeanerette, LA

Juvenile male, 15, Jeanerette, LA

Juvenile male, 15, Jeanerette, LA

Juvenile female, 15, Franklin, LA

Juvenile female, 16, Franklin, LA

A school resource officer responded to Highway 87 in the Centerville area after receiving a report of a fight in progress on a school bus. During the course of the investigation, the deputy determined that the 6 juveniles listed above started an altercation with three other juveniles while on the bus. The juveniles were released to guardians pending juvenile court proceedings.
