St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert advises that over the 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 41 complaints and reports the following arrests.
Juvenile male, 15, was arrested on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 10:27 am for disturbing the peace by fighting.

A school resource officer responded to Patterson High School for a fight. The school resource officer made contact with school officials and both students. Both juveniles were released into the custody of their parents, pending juvenile proceedings.
Therold James, 33, 308 Teche Road, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 1:32 pm for simple criminal damage to property. A corrections officer working at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center learned that James damaged a sprinkler inside of a cell. James is currently housed at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. No bail is set.
Samuel Morgan, 50, 525 Joey Street, Patterson, LA was arrested on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 6:26 pm for attempted simple burglary. A deputy patrolling the Patterson area responded to a residence on Darlene Street in regards to a male subject being observed attempting to enter a structure on the property. The deputy found evidence that Morgan was attempting to get into a locked shed. Contact was made with Morgan, and he was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
Aketa Francis, 25, 301 Egle Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 7:03 pm for theft by fraud and resisting an officer by giving false information. A deputy responded to a business in Bayou Vista for a possible theft. The deputy learned that Francis was attempting to return items that had been previously stolen. The deputy also learned that upon making initial contact with Francis, she provided a wrong first name. Francis was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

Elwin Hurst Jr., 31, 602 St. Peters Street, Jeanerette, LA was arrested on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 10:52 pm for the following offenses:
- License plate lights required
- Reckless operation of a vehicle
- Obstruction of justice
- Possession of crack cocaine
- Possession of cocaine
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
Clauashia Johnlouis, 23, 401 Irish Street Lot 12, Jeanerette, LA was arrested on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 10:52 pm for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Narcotics detectives working the area of Jeanerette observed a vehicle traveling without license plate lights and initiated a traffic stop. The driver failed to pull over and accelerated from detectives. The driver traveled in the middle of the roadway on Highway 182, ignored stop signs, and almost struck the side of a bridge on Lewis Street. Detectives also observed something being thrown out of the driver side window of the vehicle. When the vehicle came to a stop, the driver exited and fled into a nearby wooded area. After a short foot chase, detectives detained the driver, identified as Hurst. Hurst was brought back to the vehicle. Detectives located several small plastic baggies on Hurst and while searching the area near the bridge, detectives located a bag of cocaine and several pieces of crack cocaine. During a search of the vehicle, detectives located a marijuana cigarette and Swisher Sweet Cigars. Johnlouis was identified as the passenger of the vehicle. Johnlouis told detectives that the marijuana and cigars belonged to her. Both Johnlouis and Hurst were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
Jackie Keys, 62, 871 St. Peter Street, Jeanerette, LA was arrested on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 12:27 am for possession of marijuana. Narcotics detectives stopped Keys who was observed operating a bicycle without proper lighting. Detectives received consent to search Keys person and located a marijuana cigarette. Keys was release on a summons to appear in court on January 3, 2017.
