Arrest Report - August 25, 2017

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert advises that over the 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 45 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Joshua Smith, 22, 3470 Lake Palourde Road, Amelia, LA was arrested on August 24, 2017 at 9:22 am for domestic abuse battery, simple assault, resisting an officer, and theft. A deputy responded to a report of domestic battery at a residence on Village Lane. While en route, the dispatcher provided information on the suspect’s description and whereabouts. The deputy located a male subject matching the description behind the residence and ordered him to stop. The subject, later identified as Smith, fled on foot into the nearby woods. Additional deputies arrived on scene and tracked Smith through the area. With the assistance of the public, deputies located Smith at the Amelia Recreational Center. Upon seeing deputies, Smith stole a bicycle and attempted to flee. Deputies apprehended and detained Smith. As the investigation unfolded, deputies found evidence that Smith struck a female victim in the face and chest causing bruising. The victim was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center for treatment. Smith was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

 

Scott Kent, 2320 Roosevelt Boulevard, Kenner, LA was arrested on August 24, 2017 at 8:57 am for speeding (in a construction zone) and operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. A deputy traveling in the construction zone on US Highway 90 in Patterson where workers were present observed a vehicle moving at 68 miles per hour. The posted speed limit is 45 miles per hour. The deputy conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with Kent, the driver, the deputy learned that he was operating the SUV with a suspended driver’s license. Kent was released on a summons to appear in court on October 23, 2017.

 

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert advises that the Narcotics Section made the following arrests:

 

Steve Berryhill, 46, 1011 Brashear Avenue, Rm #216, Morgan City, LA was arrested on August 24, 2017 at 6:46 pm for the following offenses:

  • Possession of Schedule II (methamphetamine) with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Schedule III (Subutex) with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Legend Drug (gabapentin) with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Schedule IV (clonazepam)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Transactions involving drug proceeds
  • Violation of a Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substance law (drug free zone)
  • Possession of Schedule I (marijuana)

Angela Rhodes, 48, 1011 Brashear Avenue Rm #216, Morgan City, LA was arrested on August 24, 2017 at 6:46 pm for the following offenses:

  • Possession of Legend Drug (gabapentin) without a prescription with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Schedule II (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of Schedule I (marijuana)
  • Violation of a Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substance law (drug free zone)

Detectives of the Narcotics Section conducted a search warrant at Berryhill’s and Rhodes’ residence. Detectives located methamphetamine, marijuana, and various types of pills along with $382 in cash. Through investigation, detectives found evidence that Berryhill and Rhodes were selling the drugs and that the cash came from those illegal sales. The location is within 2,000 feet of a school. Both suspects were transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
