Deputies Arrest 2 Convicted Sex Offenders for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Requirements

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert advises that over the last 24-hour reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 44 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

Roderick Hunter, 25, Berwick, LA was additionally charged with entering contraband into a penal institution. Investigators at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center developed information that Hunter, an inmate at the jail, was in possession of a cell phone. Correctional officers searched the dorm where Hunter was housed and located the contraband item. Hunter remains incarcerated with no bond set.

 

Wallace Grogan, 60, 404 Wedell Street Apt. 4, Patterson, LA was arrested on July 12, 2017 at 11:15 am on 3 warrants for failure to provide notification as a sex offender, failure to obtain a special identification card as a sex offender, and failure to pay the annual registration fee as a sex offender. A detective of the Sex Offender Compliance Section found that Grogan failed to meet sex offender registration requirements after being convicted in 2017 of indecent behavior with juveniles in St. Mary Parish. A warrant was issued for his arrest. A deputy located Grogan at his residence and transported him to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

 

Brook Fuselier, 30, 208 Bowman Street, Berwick, LA was arrested on July 12, 2017 at 11:35 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of Zolpidem and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of creation or operation of a clandestine laboratory. Fuselier is also being held on a probation violation. Fuselier was transported from the Iberia Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrants. No bail is set.

 

James Matherne, 33, 433 Highway 182, Morgan City, LA was arrested on July 12, 2017 at 3:29 pm on a warrant for failure to register as a sex offender. Matherne was convicted of molestation of a juvenile in Terrebonne Parish in 2005. A detective of the Sex Offender Compliance Section found that Matherne failed to meet the sex offender registration requirements and secured a warrant for his arrest. A deputy made contact with Matherne at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s office in Morgan City and located the active warrant for his arrest. Matherne was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set. Matherne was released on a $1,500 bond.

 

Anthony Barlow, 55, 106 Conner Avenue, Jeanerette, LA was arrested on July 12, 2017 at 9:13 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of failure to use seatbelt, restricted license, and driving under suspension. A deputy patrolling Highway 182 in Jeanerette conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had no license plate lights. The deputy identified the driver as Barlow and located the active warrant for his arrest. Barlow was transported to the St. Mary Parrish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail is set at $450.

 

Brent Terrebonne, 46, 172 Rue Pouche Vide, Gold Meadow, LA was arrested on July 12, 2017 at 9:27 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of a Legend drug without a prescription, violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone), possession of marijuana, and operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. A correctional officer transported Terrebonne from the Lafourche Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant. Bail is set at $15,000.

 

Aerana Candanedo, 26, 7104 Park Road Apt G, Morgan City, LA was arrested don July 12, 2017 at 9:30 pm on the following warrants:

  • Warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of cocaine, prostitution, operating a vehicle with improper tail lights, and operating a vehicle with improper headlamps
  • Warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of methamphetamine and operating a vehicle without a driver’s license
  • Warrant for failure to appear on the charge of monetary instrument abuse

A correctional officer transported Candanedo from the Lafourche Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant. No bail is set.

 

Johnny Darden, 41, 161 Choctaw Lane, Jeanerette, LA was arrested on July 12, 2017 at 11:01 pm for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, 2nd offense and speeding. A deputy patrolling Baldwin observed a vehicle traveling 71 miles per hour in a posted 55 miles per hour zone on Highway 182. The deputy initiated a traffic stop. The driver stopped in the middle of the roadway. The deputy then got the driver and vehicle off the road to a safe location. The deputy identified the driver as Darden. While speaking with Darden, the deputy detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and body. The deputy also observed other signs that Darden was impaired. Darden later registered a 0.234g% blood alcohol concentration on a breath test. The deputy transported Darden to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail is set at $5,500.
