Arrest Report - June 26, 2017

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert advises that over the last 72-hour weekend reporting period, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 127 complaints and reports the following arrests:

 

John Vandercook, 46, 112 Arnold Street, Amelia, LA was arrested on June 23, 2017 at 8:57 am for violation of the parish leash law ordinance. A deputy was dispatched to a complaint of a loose dog on Arnold Street. The deputy found that Vandercook had allowed one of his dogs to roam the area without a leash. Vandercook was released on a summons to appear in court on September 8, 2017.

 

Davin Myers, 26, 1698 Duchamp Road, Broussard, LA was arrestedon June 23, 2017 at 5:38 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal trespass. A correctional officer transported Myers from the St. Martin Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Myers was released on a $500 bond.

 

Benjamin Cheramie, 46, 2614 Tupelo Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on June 24, 2017 at 11:56 am for violation of the parish ordinance governing outdoor burning.

 

Hank Landry, 40, 4055 Francis Street, Berwick, LA was arrested on June 24, 2017 at 11:56 am for violation of the parish ordinance governing outdoor burning.

 

A deputy responded to a report of trespassing in a sugarcane field in the area of Sunset Road in Bayou Vista. The deputy located 2 male subjects in the field. As the deputy approached them, the subjects got into a car and attempted to leave the area. The deputy stopped the vehicle and identified the occupants as Cheramie and Landry. The deputy found evidence that the 2 subjects were burning copper wire on private property. Cheramie and Landry were released on summonses to appear in court on September 8, 2017.

 

John Brown, 41, 126 Howard Road, Opelousas, LA was arrested on June 25, 2017 at 5:17 am for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. A deputy responded to a report of a reckless driver on US Highway 90 in the Franklin area. The deputy located the vehicle near LA Highway 317 and conducted a traffic stop. Brown, the driver of the suspect vehicle, came to a stop, immediately exited the car, and told the deputy that he was driving with a suspended license. Following the traffic stop investigation, Brown was released on a summons to appear in court on September 8, 2017. A towing company was contacted to remove the vehicle.

 

Lester Thomas, Jr., 43, 108 Hurst Street, Patterson, LA was arrested on June 25, 2017 at 9:09 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of issuing worthless checks. While patrolling Victoria Riverside Road a deputy observed a vehicle parking on private property in a field near the area known as the half bridge. The deputy identified and spoke with the occupants advising them they were on private property. The deputy located an active warrant for one of the subjects who was identified as Thomas. Thomas was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Thomas was released on a $1,500 bond.

 

Kenny Frederick, 30, 1809 Joan Drive, Franklin, LA was arrested on June 25, 2017 at 10:57 am for possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy assisting a Baldwin Police officer with a suspicious vehicle on LA Highway 87. The deputy spoke with the driver, Frederick, and received consent to search the car. The Baldwin officer located a bag containing a glass pipe used to smoke marijuana, a digital scale, and pieces of marijuana. Frederick was released on a summons to appear in court on September 8, 2017.

 

 

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert advises that the Narcotics Section made the following arrests: 

 

Lorrie Verret, 36, 1210 Weber Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on June 23, 2017 at 7:38 pm for the following offenses:

  • Improper lane usage
  • Possession of Schedule II (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Possession of a Legend Drug (trazadone) without a prescription
  • Possession of a Legend Drug (hydrazine) without a prescription
  • Possession of a Legend Drug (gabapentin) without a prescription
  • Possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor

 

Detectives of the St. Mary Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Section observed a vehicle cross over the solid yellow line several times on Katy Bridge Approach Road in Franklin and conducted a traffic stop. Detectives identified the driver as Verret. While speaking with her, detectives received consent to search her person and the car. Detectives found a straw with a white powdery substance inside and an assortment of pills. Verret was unable to provide a prescription for the drugs. Also during the traffic stop investigation, a detective observed Verret drop a bag of methamphetamine to the ground to attempt to discard the illicit substance. During a search of Verret, more methamphetamine was found in a small container on a necklace she was wearing. There was a juvenile in the vehicle when the traffic stop was made. Verret was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.

 

 

Jacob Zirlott, 33, 112 Oxford Loop, Franklin, LA was arrested on June 23, 2017 at 10:27 pm for the following offenses:

  • Possession of Schedule II (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
  • Possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor 

Detectives of the St. Mary Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Section developed information of illegal drug activity at the Zirlott’s residence and obtained a search warrant for the location. During the search, detectives located a small amount of methamphetamine, digital scales, plastic baggies, a straw, and an AR15 style rifle. Zirlott is a convicted felon. A juvenile was at the residence at the time of the investigation. Zirlott was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
